Requirements: The applicant must be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Economics preferably specialising in International Trade, Macroeconomics or Statistics with at least three years practical experience. A master’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Econometrics, Applied Statistics, Mathematics Statistics will be an added advantage. Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including econometrics/ economic modelling. Ability to formulate clear policy recommendations based solid analytical work. Knowledge of the dtic’s Master plans, New Growth Path (NGP), South Africa’ s Industrial Policy and Trade Policy. A self-starter with conceptual and strategic focus. Project and programme management. Policy development and analysis.
Key Responsibilities: Reporting to the Chief Economist, the main responsibilities of the incumbent are to monitor and evaluate trade flows, analysis import and export trends and sector developments. Compile economic research; industrial and trade policy analysis; and economic impact assessments on downstream and upstream users relating to ITAC’s trade instruments. Provide technical and policy advice to the dtic as required by the International Trade Administration Act 71 of 2002 (‘ITA Act’). Advise on the alignment of ITAC’s policies, regulations, guidelines and practices to the relevant policy prescripts and the objectives of the ITA Act. Advise on the alignment of ITAC’s policies, Regulations, Guidelines and Practices to Government policies.
